Our founding impulse
How can the purpose of companies, the reason why they exist in the world, also become the motive for as many people involved in and around the company as possible? What quality of ownership, governance, and financing for the company can help to make this happen?
What is Steward-Ownership?
Steward-ownership is the idea of understanding companies as social constructs with their own purpose and thus treating them more as stewards and less as asset owners. We understand steward-ownership as business ownership held in trust. The steering wheel always remains in the hands of people who are connected to the company and its mission, and the assets are tied to the company. This prevents the company from becoming an object of speculation and allows it to remain self-determined and independent in the long term.

And so, for over 10 years, we have had the privilege of helping to shape the idea and principles of steward-ownership around the world.
