Our Story
Ten years ago, we founded Purpose and began our work on the idea of steward-ownership. Back then, this form of ownership was still nameless – but pioneering companies around the world had already implemented and tested it. Naming and disseminating the underlying principles marked the beginning of our journey. It quickly became clear that as awareness of the concept grew, so did the demand for appropriate support for entrepreneurs. Many were looking for ownership solutions that aligned with their values. In response to this need, we founded – as part of the Purpose Group – the world's first consulting firm for companies seeking ownership, governance, and financing solutions in line with steward-ownership. Purpose Consulting was born. Since then, a lot has changed. Not only has the term "steward-ownership" become widely established – but we as a consultancy have also been able to gain extensive experience by supporting over 150 companies of various sizes in different countries. This is how our consulting service has become what it is today. We experience repeatedly how the conscious interaction with ownership, governance and financing can shape a company's development and identity. Unlocking this potential is our mission – and our passion. In addition to providing direct support to companies, the further development of the field of steward-ownership remains a central concern for us. For over ten years, we have been helping to promote the idea and its principles worldwide – particularly as part of the Purpose Group, by sharing our knowledge and experiences with the Purpose Foundation through open-source materials and training courses in many regions of the world. This results in impacts far beyond our direct customer base. And, of course, we ourselves are an independent, self-determined company in steward-ownership.
Our Attitude
As consultants at Purpose Consulting, we see ourselves as companions to entrepreneurs who want to design ownership, governance, and succession solutions tailored to their companies, as well as thinking and sparring partners in finding financing that is consistent with the company's form of ownership. We combine a deep and vibrant connection to the idea and principles of steward-ownership with a non-moralizing, respectful attitude towards our clients, their unique histories, and individual needs. Our work is shaped by the awareness that consciously addressing corporate ownership often brings to light profound personal, cultural, and fundamental business questions. “Purpose offers a kind of corporate therapy. Based on the needs and values of the owners, the company, and other stakeholders, we accompany the process in line with these needs and values in order to design a tailor-made ownership and governance solution. We guide you through the process, act as partners who think along, and put ourselves as business consultants in the shoes of the entrepreneurs. Although we have extensive experience with ownership and legal forms, we cannot and are not permitted to offer or provide legal advice within the meaning of the Legal Services Act (Rechtsdienstleistungsgesetzes). We do not have the necessary professional qualifications to do so. However, we are happy to share our experience and provide some sample contracts if required. With our network of specialized attorneys and tax advisors on steward-ownership, we can help you find the right experts, or we can work with the legal and tax advisors of your choice if you already have trusted partners.

We are part of the Purpose Group
Purpose Consulting is part of the Purpose Group, which developed around the Purpose Foundation after its establishment in 2015 with the mission of making steward-ownership better known and more accessible. The group's independent companies operate in the fields of consulting, investment, charitable work, and charitable education and research. In addition, there are international partners who are not part of the Purpose Group but operate under the Purpose brand. All of the above-mentioned companies were founded in steward-ownership and contribute in their own way to making steward-ownership better known and easier to implement – so that the idea can unfold its full potential. Purpose Consulting acts as a specialist in consulting on steward-ownership far beyond individual consulting projects. Through close cooperation with the Purpose Foundation, knowledge, tools, and experiences from consulting can be made publicly available – for example, in the form of guidelines, case studies, manuals, publications, and events.
